PUSD News this Week
- The Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) recorded significant gains in student performance in preliminary results of the 2009 California standards tests. Overall, more students are advanced or proficient in English language arts and math than last year, according to data from the district’s own student information system. The California Department of Education is scheduled to release final results in a couple of weeks, and families can expect to receive individual student results later this month.
- PUSD teachers are participating in specialized training this summer as part of the district’s focus on professional development. Teachers are enhancing their knowledge and skills in math, literacy, arts, and history through the district’s summer professional development institute.
- The PUSD’s new website is scheduled to launch the week of August 17. Features include easier access to academic information, services and accomplishments. The main district website will launch in August, with schools scheduled to launch individual websites later this fall.
- The first day of the school year is Thursday, September 10, 2009
- What do Peter Pan and Mary Poppins have in common? And what about dancing chimney sweeps, lost boys, singing suffragettes and pirates? Find out on August 7-8, as the PUSD Musical Theater Program weaves these two great musical theater scores into A SPOONFUL OF FAIRY DUST, a vibrant musical showcase of Pasadena’s stars of today and tomorrow! The program, under the overall leadership of award-winning composer-lyricist Ryan Scott Oliver, was founded in 1995 by Gayle Bluemel. Performances are scheduled on Friday, August 7 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, August 8 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the stage of the Pasadena High School Auditorium. The school is located at 2925 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. in Pasadena.
