Supplemental Programs

Pasadena Education Foundation (PEF) Summer Enrichment Program (fee-based)

PEF is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 to enhance educational programs in the Pasadena Unified School District. PEF began the Summer Enrichment Program six years ago at the request of the PUSD to provide its students with summer enrichment. Since then many families have taken advantage of the affordable classes, taught by
credentialed teachers, where students can learn new skills as well as improve knowledge in core subjects in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The program has grown to two school sites -- Hamilton Elementary and McKinley School -- serving more than 700 children from throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

Skills Enrichment Program

The Skills Enrichment Program (SEP) was created in 1990 and is a collaborative partnership between Pasadena Unified School District and four independent private schools in the city. SEP provides quality education in a different setting for PUSD students. The students are nominated by their principals and teachers from each elementary school. The students demonstrate high academics, good attendance and enter the program at the end of their fourth or fifth grade year. Students participate each summer through their middle and high school years as long as they remain with the school district. The goals are to provide an intensive five-week summer enrichment program in language arts, math, and science in small class settings and to expose students to leadership opportunities. The program serves students from 5th - 12th grades (fall placement) and is offered at no cost to the students and their families.

Pasadena LEARNS Summer Program

PasadenaLEARNs

We are excited to offer local elementary students and families a comprehensive summer program that is similar to our after school program during the school year. Our program runs concurrently with the PUSD Summer School. All sites will run a minimum of four hours per day. Hours vary by site, but all programs start in the morning and are over by 1:30 p.m. On Fridays, students participate in a variety of field trips. There is a $75 registration fee that covers field trip costs. Scholarships are available.

The following are a list of sites that will run a PasadenaLEARNS summer program along with the phone number of the site coordinator. Please note that if your child’s PasadenaLEARNs program is placed at a different site during the summer, transportation will be available. Please call the PasadenaLEARNs central office if you need additional assistance.
